LIFE SCIENCE CODE | ライフサイエンスの記憶
This monument aims to convey the mysteries and unknown possibilities of life science to the many researchers who work there and to visitors to the Chugai Research Center. Researchers are unraveling the information of the genome read from human DNA and studying future drug discovery in the hope of improving people's health. Therefore, we decided to unravel the design from the genome stored in the human body, just as in drug discovery, and generated the design from the human genome sequence. The genome contains a vast amount of memory (information) that makes up a person. It is the memory of a person accumulated in the process of evolution, and it is also the memory of the earth up to the present. Various memories are expressed in [Life] natural materials and [Science] materials created by technology and human hands. From the vast layers of memories, we have created a monument that evokes the mysteries of life science and its magnificent possibilities.
The genome, the genetic information of human beings, has finally been deciphered in recent years. When the decoded genome is visualized, it reveals a unique pattern and has a mysterious beauty. This monument is the result of unraveling the genome sequence hidden within a person and weaving a design.
The materials accumulated based on the genome sequence are composed of natural objects such as plants and trees that have nurtured people, as well as materials created by technology and human hands, expressing the crystallization of memories that have shaped people.The materials collected from forests are the memory of nature, rocks created over time are the memory of the earth, and traditional crafts and artisans' skills, such as gold leaf and hammering of metals, are the memory of people,Plants collected from the Fuji Gotemba Research Institute and the Kamakura Research Institute, which will be closed, are the memory of Chugai, while the viewer's reflection in the mirror surface is the memory of the present and is incorporated into the monument.By accumulating them as memories, nature and technology are archived as part of the monument, and are to be passed on to the next generation.By creating a landscape in which various memories that would normally be incompatible intervene, Chugai has realized a monument that embodies the company's motto, "Exceeding the imagination through creation.
中外製薬が新たな研究施設を設立するに伴い、働く多くの研究者や、来館する人にLife Science(生命科学)の神秘や、未知なる可能性を伝えることを目指したモニュメント。Life Scienceはいまだに多くの事が解明されていない未知の領域であり、研究者は人のDNAから読み取ったゲノムの情報を紐解き、人々の健康を願いながら未来の創薬の研究をしている。そこで創薬と同じように人間の中に記憶されたゲノムからデザインを紐解こうと考え、人のゲノム配列からデザインを起こした。ゲノムには人を構成する膨大な記憶(情報)が入っている。 それは進化の過程で蓄積されてきた人の記憶であり、現在に至るまでの地球の記憶でもある。様々な記憶を【Life】自然素材と、【Science】テクノロジーや人の手で生み出された素材で表現。膨大な記憶の積層から生命科学の神秘と、壮大な可能性を感じさせるモニュメントを創り上げた。
人間の遺伝子情報であるゲノムは、近年ようやく解読された。
解読されたゲノムは、可視化されると独特の模様が浮かび上がり、神秘的な美しさがある。このモニュメントは、人の中に潜むゲノムの配列を紐解き、デザインを紡ぎ出した。
ゲノム配列を元に積み重ねられたマテリアルは人々を育んできた草木などの自然物、そしてテクノロジーや人の手で生み出された素材によって構成し、人を形作ってきた記憶の結晶を表現した。森林の採取物は自然の記憶、時間をかけて作られてきた岩石は大地の記憶、金箔や金属の鎚起などの伝統工芸や職人の技は人の記憶、閉鎖する富士御殿場研究所と鎌倉研究所から採取した植物は中外製薬の記憶、鏡面に映る鑑賞者は現在の記憶となり、モニュメントに取り込まれる。記憶として集積することで、自然や技術はモニュメントの一部としてとしてアーカイブされ、次世代につなぎとめる。本来ならば相容れない様々な記憶が介在する景色を作り出し、中外製薬の掲げる「創造で想像を超える」を体現したモニュメントを実現させた。
